October car sales rise in Spain, France and Italy
New-car sales in Spain and France rose sharply in October, helped by government subsidies for car buyers.

Spanish car sales jumped 26.4 percent last month from a year earlier, data from carmakers' association ANFAC showed on Monday.

The rise in sales compared to an increase of 18 percent in September.

Car sales fell 24.4 percent in the January to October period year on year to 775,378 units from 1.025 million units in the first ten months of 2008.

Sales rose to 98,202 units in October from 77,686 units in the same month a year earlier, ANFAC said.
